MidiVox Midi Clips GM/GS Format.

These clips may be downloaded, and played back with any midi file player. If your browser has a midi plug in, they can also be listened to online. For best results, use your soundcard, and whatever midi file player came with your soundcard. Since some midi software synth file players like Quicktime A/V are not realtime and are simply too slow to play the files accurately. So they will sound really weird or out of tune.

The clips will work with any midi software synth, soundcard, sound module, or synth. The tracks were performed using a combination of Midi Singing, Midi Humming, and Midi Scat Singing.

The module used was a Roland Sound Canvas. A couple of the tunes were recorded using Cakewalk on the PC. Some of the others were recorded using my old Amiga, running Bars and Pipes Pro.

1. MidiVox Bowed Glass

This file was created using MidiVox microtonal tracking, which allows full string like bends, slides, bow type effects. I used the Roland Sound Canvas patch Bowed Glass for the lead. Because this is the fastest bending patch on the Sound Canvas. This kind of patch is fast enough to capture anything you can do with your voice.

This file is great for benchmarking your midi patches, as to how fast they can follow midi pitch bend, and other midi controller messages. If you want to know which patches on your soundcard or synth are the fastest, you can speed check them with this file. Slow pad patches won't sound at all, medium speed midi instruments will have lots of note dropouts. Any patch that follows the entire track, can be scat sung at 200-300 bpm, if your tongue and lips are fast enough.

2. MidiVox Electric Violin.

This is the Bowed Glass file played back with a patch change, using the standard GM/GS Violin. The Violin does not bend and slide quite as fast as the Bowed Glass patch. I did not change any of the patch paramaters or any of the sound module filters. It is simply the expressive way the human midi vocal line plays the patch, that causes it to sound in certain parts like an Electric Violin.

I made of couple of minor track edits, where the Violin simply couldn't change notes fast enough to follow the Midi Singing. So I simply deleted those unheard notes. Experiment with playing this file back with different midi sounds.

3. MidiVox Jazz Flute Improv

This midi track was created using MidiVox Chromatic Auto Pitch Correct tracking. Which auto locks your voice to the closest half-step. Never sing off key anymore. Chromatic Tracking does not allow bends of slides, but one can gliss, and gliss fast enough to do, what sounds like bends and slides. This track was recorded live in one pass, using Midi Scat Singing. Using your basic GM/GS Flute patch.

4. Midivox Brass Round.

This midi file was also done in MidiVox chromatic tracking, using the round Row, Row, Row, Your Boat. Midi Humming was used on all the tracks. If you can hum, Row, Row, Row, Your Boat, thats all the vocal skill you need to do Midi Singing, Midi Humming, and Midi Scat Singing. One part at a time, I hummed, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, and Tuba parts into this Brass Round. It was fun. And I like the sound of hummed brass. Stopping to breathe makes the parts very human sounding.
