Sounding the Inner Landscape by Kay Gardner
Summary: Composer, preformer Kay Gardner offers her views and experiences on healing with medicine wheels, chants, mantras, melody, modes, harmony, and rhythm. Info and ideas on composing healing music.
Review: I always enjoy reading music books by composers. Composer Kay Gardner writes about music and sound healing techniques used by ancient civilazations. Covers auras, chakras, other metaphysical energy systems assuming the reader isn't familar with them, so a good book if you have no idea what they are.
Like many books on music and sound healing, does get rather occult in places, but there are over 100 illustrations, photos, and drawings which helps greatly in making sense of what in many books just seems like metaphysical mumbo jumbo. The artwork is a nice plus, even if you already know the vocabulary.
There is a fine chapter that covers some of the musical instrument families, brass, woodwinds, etc And another chapter on different kinds of musical pieces, from a composers viewpoint, and a walk through on how Kay composed some of her pieces.
Very informative, and I wish all books on music and healing had all the artwork. A good addition to your music and sound healing library, a must have if you enjoy Kay's music. After reading the book, you can easily imagine watching her composing and or performing, when you listen to the music. See suggested listening for some of her recordings. ( paperback, 278 pages )

Qigong for Health and Vitality by Michael Tse
This fine book offers step by step instructions for learning Qigong, one of the most ancient and powerful forms of Chinese healing. Similar to Ti Chi, and Kung Fu, in some ways, Qigong teaches one to generate and use the bodies internal energy for self healing, to restore health, and also the prevention of illness and disease.
Qigong claims to be helpful in treating and curing backache, arthritis, asthma, hypertension, stress, insomia, headache, and other I've got to run to the drugstore ailments, that many accept as normal side effects of living.
The books has over a hundred photos, many charts and diagrams, including which Qigong exercies to do for specific health problems. Most of the movements can be done , even by the elderly or those with physical handicaps. And the overall effects of daily practice include improved balance, cirulation, movement, strength and flexibility.
I had heard stories for years about Qigong Masters being able to generate some kind of sonic energy beams from the palms of their hands. Recent research in China has proved this to be true, and has led to Qigong machines used in hospitals in China. And other Qigong devices available from alternative treatment catologs.
With this book, you can be your own Qigong machine. ( soft bound, 138 pages )

Your Bodies Many Cries for Water by F.Batmanghelidj M.D.
I had been having some health problems that were coming and going and driving me crazy, then I read this amazing book on improving your health, and staying healthy by simply drinking water, lots of water. As I learned more about how everything that goes on in our bodies and minds, needed water, I started drinking more water, in place of coffee, tea, soda, juice, alcohol, and other drinks. All my health problems cleared up by making water my main beverage daily.
Some of the topics the book covers, are water as a pain killer, water for preventing and curing arthiris, backache, headaches, hypertension, heart problems, diabetics, memory problems, and many other health problems all caused by simply drinking too many other drinks that are not water, and giving the body and brain enough water to stay healthy.
There is plentry of references and research notes for doctors, as well as in depth explanations of how every part of the body uses water, and why other drinks can not give the body the pure water it needs. You will never look at a glass of water in the same way again. If you want to improve your health and stay healthy, read this book, and follow its medical advice. Drink water, what your body has to have for great health.

The Human Voice, Your Living Musical Instrument by Timothy Kelly Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
Did you know that you are a living musical instrument? We all have the world's only living musical instrument with us everywhere we go. We wake it up in the morning, tune it up as we get ready to work, use our instrument at work all day, then take it home with us. When we go to sleep, it goes to sleep with us. Our living musical instrument is the wonderful always singing, always dancing, amazing human voice.
We play our voices for hours each day. Talking with family and friends. Communicating at work and at play. Thanks to cell phones, and cordless phones, you can see and hear people playing their voice instruments everywhere. You can even buy pretend toy fake cell phones, if you just want to pretend you can phone home anytime.
Nature has designed the human voice to make an unlimited variety of sounds. Thats good, now that we have become a voices everywhere society. Soft, loud, musical, unmusical, happy, sad, high, low, mellow, harsh, angry, loving, laughing, crying sounds without end.
Since the living voice is alive, we can express emotions, ideas, what we imagine, what we believe, what we dream about, either daydreaming, or at nite while the body sleeps. Everyday human speech using our living vocal instrument is the main way we communicate to others. People love to talk, and to listen to others talk. Voices can be heard everywhere we go, radio, tv, movies, airplanes, cars, computers telling us we've got mail.
Or I should say speech was the preferred way to communicate before the Internet. Since now there is global email, and worldwide chat rooms, where everyone gets to practice their writing and spelling. Thank God for spelling checkers. As it seemed like the whole world was learning to write all over again.
For those who have the hardware and fast enough net connections, one can send global email vocally, using voice compression software. And different vocal chat and net phone software sometimes works very well with today's faster cpus. So vocal mailing lists, aren't far off in the future. One will finally be able to hear what ones net friends sound like. And speech to text software even allows me to talk type this article. So many advances in technology are coming together to allow us to use our living voices more in this computer age. Before long, we will be able to talk to our computers, just like Captain Kirk does in Star Trek.
Each voice is its own special one of a kind instrument. Each of us has a voiceprint as different as our fingerprints or DNA. You can even password protect all or part of your computer with vocal security software that will recognize only your voice. No more forgetting your password, since you can't forget your voice. Laryngitis or a really bad sore throat could be a problem maybe. So don't throw away all your password files yet.
Each human voice has its own sound based on your parents voices and what other voices were in your enviroment as a kid, the size and shape of your vocal cords and voice box, what languages you speak, what part of your vocal range you choose to use, how you use your voice daily, your diet, body size and shape, and any vocal training you might have had. All these factors combine to make you a one of a kind living musical instrument.
How old are you? Well, thats how many years of practice you have had in using your living voice. By the time you finish high school you have been expressing yourself vocally for 18 years. Thats a lot of time to get really, really, good in using your vocal musical instrument.
But just in case you are saying to yourself, but I don't sing, I only use my voice for talking. Well, friend talking is musical expression just like singing is. Talking uses melody and rhythm. And a much wider variety of melody and rhythm than most singing does also. Talking not only uses chromatic pitches, like the black and white keys on the piano, but talking also uses the inbetween notes, the nonchromatic or microtonal sounds not used in most singing. Its this wider variety of vocal expression in everyday speech, that allows us to express dozens and dozens of different physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states.
We all have a tired voice that sounds different from our feeling great with extra energy voice. We all have a happy voice than sounds happy, vs our sad voice, which sounds sad. We use different pitches and vol levels while using our angry voice vs our loving voice. Each kind of expression has its own vocal tune, its own music, that we play, to communicate to others. At work, at play, at home, on the phone, at a party, in church, at the mall, in the mts, on the beach, we can use our voice everywhere, because our human voice is the worlds only living musical instrument, no batteries, no ac power required.
Take advantage of the beauty and love and music that you can express to others with your voice. A kind word or two can make someones day, and can touch those we pass on the street and will never see again. Because the voice is living, living music, living sound, and can touch bodies, hearts, minds, and souls.
Thanks for reading.

Self Healing with Your Voice by Timothy Kelly Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
Down through the ages, every civilazation on our planet has taught that one can use the Human Voice for self healing. China, India, Eygpt, Grecce, Rome, Africa, Americans, all had civilazations that used chanting, toning, singing, loving speech, for self healing. All music was live, and vocal music was the most alive of all.
People sang morning songs when they got up in the morning, or sang about their dreams. People sang as they were working in the fields, sang around the house, sang in temples, sang as they travelled. People sang their kids to sleep at nite and themselves too. If you wanted music, you had to make your own.
Past Cultures were simply more aware of the healing power of sound, the human voice, vocal sound, and how our bodies need and use sound energy. When all music is live, and everyone is making music, active knowledge about sound is easy to obtain. Every person has daily vocal feedback from their own voice, and the voices of those around them. Especially since almost all ancient teachings about God taught the Sound was the highest spiritual power, and that sound created all life. Most of the ancients not only believed that sound created matter, but that sound energy could change, even move matter.
After decades of modern medicine failing to cure the deadliest diseases, even many medical doctors are turning to alternative healing methods that are drug free. A fastenating new book called Sounds of Healing by Mitchell Gaynor M.D, is all about the therapeutic power of sound, voice and music. Dr. Gayner is the director of medical oncology at the Strang-Cornell Cancer Prevention Institute in New York City. One of his patients was a Tibetan monk, who taught him Tibetan chants, and how to play the Tibetan singing bowls. And the Dr. soon was using music and sound in his practice.
You don't have to wait to get ill to take advantage of your voices natural sound healing ability. Dr. Alfred Tomatis, founder of the Tomatis Institutes, found that he could cure deafness by stimulating the ears with certain frequancies of sound. He also discovered that the ear collects and stores positive sound as energy for our brain and nervous systems. That sound charges up the brain and nervous system, like charging a car battery. It may be that Alhemiers, MS, and many other brain and nervous system disorders are simply caused by lack of positive sound energy, outside and inside the body.
Dr. Tomatis also discovered that chanting and singing are the best ways to charge up your bodies electrical systems with sound. He suggests singing or chanting along with Geogorian Chant recordings as a simple way to do some self healing or to prevent any illness due to lack of sound energy.
Before recorded music was everywhere, people sang a lot more. You couldn't walk down the street without hearing someone humming, singing, or whistling. Same for the workplace. And everyone sang. People simply enjoyed their voices and didn't worry about what their singing sounded like. Now one can go for days or weeks without hearing anyone singing, humming or whistling. Dr. Tomatis and many others, including myself suggest that a short singing or chanting break is as good or better than two cups of coffee. Coffee and caffine only create the illusion of positive energy, while chanting and singing recharge your brain and your body.
And don't overlook whistling or humming. Humming can get that healing vocal vibration going all over your body, and happy whistling, or whistling along with the birds, can be very peaceful and calming. Your own voice, when used musicly can give you a great stress break.
Chanting is done worldwide and has been going on for centuries. The majority of the 5 billion people on the earth today do some form of chanting on a regular basis. Chant gangs travel around India, chanting as a group wherever they go. Now thats a kind of gang activity that doesn't end up in a jail cell. Chant choirs have existed in India, China, Africa, and even the chant choirs of the Catholic Church. Most of the time, chanting was seen and performed as a spiritual activity. Not just for self healing, but to heal entire nations, and to keep the planet whole.
Modern day chant choirs like the recordings of the Tibetan Monks, and groups such as The Harmonic Choir are very popular. If you ever get a chance to attend a chant concert, do so, its a wonderful uplifting sound experience.
The two most popular words to chant are OM, favored by Hindus, Buddists, and HU, used by groups such as Eckankar worldwide. I have attended HU Chants at the Eckankar Temple of Golden Wisdom in Chansenan, Minnasota. They have an online Temple of Eck tour, also information on chanting HU, and local events in your area, no matter where on the globe you may be. For more on HU, go to www.eckankar.org. HU is one of my favorite chants, I call HU, a Love Song to God. And chanting or singing anything with Love can really turn on the healing or self healing.
In the Middle East, both those of the Moslem faith and the Jewish religion have chants of their own also. It would be nice if they would all get together and chant with each other. Its a lot harder to hate someone, once you have chanted or sung with them. Africians love to chant and sing also. And Africa is still one of the places where you can hear chanting and singing on the streets. In Nigeria HU is one of the favorite Africian chants. I wish those in Africa would get together and chant and sing together also. A Temple of Eck is also being built in Nigeria.
One can have a lot of fun vocally, by simply making up chants. I like to sing and chat positive words. One of my favorite chant songs is Love is a Sound. I also use Love, Sound, Music, I Love to Sing, I Love Music. I find all these to also be great vocal warm ups and vocal exercies. I also do scat singing, making up sounds. For more on this, see my articles, Sing Your Way to Health. Tune Your Voice with Sounds. And my Teach Yourself Singing web pages.
So, no matter what your physical, emotional, mental or spiritual health is, have some fun and do some vocal health healing. Try some daily chanting, toning, singing, loving speech, whistling, and humming. Vocal sound will be at the center of most of the future healing. Don't wait, start with yourself and your own voice.
Thanks for reading.

The Healing Sound of Laughter in Your Daily Life by Timothy Kelly Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
Whens the last time you had a good laugh? Do you laugh daily? Do you still have a good sense of humor? Are you considered a fun person to be around? Do your friends think you are funny? Do you ever tell someone a funny story or a funny joke? Is there laughter in your home? At your workplace?
There was a famous book a few years ago, where the author, cured his terminal cancer through laughter and humor. The book and movie Patch Adams is about a Doctor and what happens when he tries to use humor with the patients at a hospital. Ancient Healers like Hipporates, the Father of Modern Medicine, all knew about the healing power of laughter and other drug free healing methods over 2,000 years ago.
Laughter relieves stress, boosts the immue system, takes us away from lifes problems, speeds up our bodies natural healing processes. Enough laughs a day may keep the doctor, far, far, away.
If possible its good to start the day with some laughter and also end it that way. Read a joke, a funny story, the comics pages in the newspaper, a funny show on tv, all are simple everyday humor break things you can do to get your daily laughter fix. And once you get rolling around, share some of that laughter with those around you. Everyone likes a good joke or a funny story.
Keeping your sense of humor active, is also great for surviving life, especially anything so tramatic you need to heal from. People enjoy laughing, and hearing the sound of laughter.
I like to read funny books. Dave Barry, Tim Allen, Drew Cary, Jay Leno, and other commedians all are good at writing funny books, that will make you laugh out loud. The humor section of any bookstore is full of books filled with jokes, cartoons, stories, satires, and humorous looks at life. And you can do a humor search at most online bookstores.
Card shops are full of funny greeting cards. Magizines like MAD, Cracked, National Lampoon, spoof everything. And kids books are great at telling funny stories. Read something funny, instead of the mostly negative newspaper and your whole day could change for the better.
If you like jokes, the Internet is the worlds largest collection of joke sites. There are lots of sites where you can read lawyer jokes, doctor jokes, dirty jokes, kids jokes, animal jokes, political jokes, religious jokes, and any other kind you can think of. One of my favorites is all musican jokes. There are also a lot of joke of the day sites where you can have a new joke emailed to you everyday.
Internet radio stations have online comedy programs you can listen too. As well as shows like Parie Home Companion on NPR, and the other comedy shows that are on broadcast radio and tv. Comedy shows are always in the top ten, cause everyone enjoys laughing.
And sometimes nothing is funnier than the tv talk shows. If you think your neighbor or boss is weird, wait till you watch Jerry Springer, where truth is stranger than fiction. And I always try to catch the monologue jokes at the beginning of late nite talk shows like Jay Leno, and David Letterman. I watch one, while the other one is taping, and watch it the next morning. Its always funny to hear jokes about current news events of the day.
If you think your sense of humor is good enough you can even try writing your own jokes and funny stores. And sometimes nothing is more funny than a good funny song. A song parady or satire, like the ones in MAD magazine, or like the ones Rush Limbaugh plays all the time on his radio show, can keep you singing and humming all day.
A little daily laughing can do wonders for your body, your emotions, your mental health, and even your spiritual health. Make sure you arrange your daily life, so you get in a few minutes of musical laughter. You will enjoy life more, be happier, and healther. Now thats laughing and living.
Thanks for reading. Happy Laughing.

Singing Your Way to Health by Timothy Kelly Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
I can't imagine not singing or being one of those who claim they have no desire to sing. My earliest memories as a very young child are of wanting to sing and write songs. I used to go outside by myself somewhere and just pretend I was a singing cowboy like Roy Rodgers or a famous singer with my own tv show like Perry Como.
Musical variety shows were on every nite, and I would watch them all, singing along. Perry Como, Milton Berle, Carrol Burrnet, Dean Martin, Name that Tune, Ed Sullivan, Steve Allen, Lawence Welk, Sing Along wit Mitch, all had lots of singers singing away. Hollywood also was still putting out lots of musicals, and movies of Broadway musicals. So a was a musical time, and a lot more Americans sang then.
Most people if asked today will tell you they can't sing. They don't want to enjoy their vocal birthright, and enjoy the health benifits of singing. Usually because of a negative vocal idenity. If its one thing Mother Nature has designed everyone to do, its singing. And daily singing is such a joy, such an upliftment. And more and more research in finding out how the sound of our own voice can keep us healthy and heal us, when we need to be healther.
Singing is making a comeback, with Karoke, singing machines, a new crop of young singing stars, a boom in acoustic guitar sales, and even the huge millions of soundcards out there can provide the music for midi karoke, songwriting, etc.
Its amazing how fast singing can work to give one enegy, to charge one up with sound. All throughout history, people have sung a lot. For thousands of years all music was live, so people had to make their own music and the voice, being always with them, was the first choice. We dont know a lot about music in ancient times, but we do know singing was everywhere. Folk songs have been handed down for centuries, from Egypt, China, Grecce, Italy, Spain, France, Japan, Persia, Russia, England, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Peru, etc. People love to sing, and to listen to others sing also.
In ancient Greece, you could have heard the singers practicing for the Olympics, or singing at the schools where the teachers were Orpheus, Phythangerous, Socartes, Plato, and Homer. Everyone studied and was encouraged to make music daily in ancient Greece.
In near by Rome, Italian opera in a different form was around even way back then. Even the famous Roman legions sung while they marched across the known world for energy and to keep their spirits up.
In Eygpt , Cleopatra led the temple choirs and , and her African slaves had their own choirs and singers also. Legends also say all the workers sang while they built the great pyramids. Some legends also say they even used special group chanting and singing to move and build the pyramids.
China, even in ancient times having a lot more people, out did everyone in the choir department. One Chinese emporer had 14 orchestras at court, some 10,000 musicans. For special occasions, they would bring in another 5,000 musicans from out of town. 15,000 musicans and singers. Hows that for one gig? They could hear the music for a long, long, way.
Africa is often called the dark continent by explorers and writers. Actually it should be called the musical continent. Every village, every tribe in ancient Africa had its own songs. And one of my favorite African sayings is: If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing.
And across the oceans in the Americans, singing was going on everywhere also. In the Andes Mts, singers and whistlers used rapid, high pitched yodels and trills to communicate from one mt. top to another. Tribes all over what would be later called North and South America all had their own songs, like the tribes in Africa.
So if you believe in reincarnation, odds are good you did a lot of singing in past lifetimes. And if you are a, I only live one lifetime person, then you want to get in as much singing as you can while on earth.
A good place to start is in the shower. The acoustics are good, and singing can be done with little effort. The sound of your singing voice can also clean you with sound in ways soap and water can't. If you drive to work, singing in the car makes rush hour traffic a great place to make music. Just imagine what the freeways and roads would sound like, if everyone sang their way to and from work.
And when you get a chance, singing outdoors is a great way to develop your voice and have fun also. Once you have fun in an empty football stadium, in the mts, up in a tree, in a cave, in a tunnel, out in a desert under a full moon, on a deserted beach, you really discover how much space your voice can fill up with sound. Then singing anywhere indoors is no sweat, since the spaces are so much smaller.
Years ago, I was a music camp director for the first ever outdoor summer camp for severely disabled kids and adults. Many had never been outdoors before for very long, none had camped out, and it was a wonder to watch those who might spend their entire lifes in one kind of institution or another, realize here they were simply being treated like normal human beings.
A love for music and singing is built into all of us, and I have worked a lot with special populations over the years. Anyone who does, can tell you stories about how those with incredible handicaps respond to music and sound. Well, that summer camp went far beyond anything I had ever seen before. Some who couldn't walk, learned to walk, some who couldn't talk, not only started talking but also singing. It was a very rewarding and humbling experience to see how music and sound can produce miracles.
And music and sound, especially your own voice can produce miracles in your life also. Singing has been proven to reduce stress, improve cirulation, strengthen the heart, charge the brain and nervous system, slow down the aging process, give one extra energy, help the body get rid of toxins. And even cure some so called incurable diseases.
Singing is also one of the best all around aerobic exercies, for singing uses the entire body. So sing your way to health, by spending a few minutes a day doing what comes naturally. Using the beautiful, musical instrument, your singing voice, to sing, sing, sing.

Tune Your Voice with Sounds by Timothy Kelly Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
The human voice is capable of making an unlimited variety of sounds. One of the easiest ways to keep your voice healthy and do some sound healing at the same time, is to spend a few minutes a day, making sounds with your voice.
You want to keep your voice flexible by making as wide a variety of sounds as possible. Everything from musical sounds like singing, humming, scat singing, chanting, toning, to non musical sounds, growls, cries, laughs, chirps, squeaks, squells, peeps, pops, slides, whistles, and everything in between. The more variety the better.
You especially want to explore the parts of your voice range you don't normally use in everyday speaking and singing. That gives you voice a complete vocal tune up. And completely eliminates singing off key, monotone, tone deafness, and many other vocal problems caused by the voice being out of tune.
Use your voice. For sounds, for healing.
Happy Sounds. Thanks for reading.

What is Healing Music. An Overview for the 21st Century. Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
As the 20th century ends, many sound and music researchers are looking at what kinds of music are healing, and how and why music heals. Here's an overview of what's going on globally and also my definition of what healing music is.
Primitive Music : Some music healers think that primitive music is the most healing. The use of simple drums, rattles, wooden flutes, bells, and other musical instruments found in tribal cultures. A long time ago, back when there were only 5 note penatonic scales. Music was known to have mystical healing powers, and was the doctor of the times. The 5 note penatonic scales are still used worldwide.
Modes of the Greeks: Others healers say the ancient Greeks with there mystery schools, and a highly developed set of modes, or scales had the musical keys to healing. The Greek Masters such as Plato, Socrates, and Pythagoras knew pieces written in certain modes, would cause certain physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual effects. The Greek Masters knew music could change an entire society.
Vocal Chanting: Chanting and other vocal healing techniques are found worldwide. HU, OM, AMEN, RA, MU, ECK,SHANTI,ALLAH,SHALOM,KYRIE,ALLELUIA,AWN and many more used the world over by ancient civilazations and world religons. The Catholic Church has used Georgian chant for 1500 years, making it one of the newer chants. Tibetian monks and others have Overtone Chanting, 3 notes at once.
Music of India: India uses 22 note scales vs Western Musics 12. Or what some call microtonal scales vs chromatic scales. Indian musicans play ragas, which change depending on the day, week, mo, hour, season, and many other variables. India is a large country, so different music is found in different parts, especially North India vs Sound India. The different scale system and note intervals are interesting.
Music of China: Ancient Chinese Music has a healing system involving the 5 elements, Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Air. Links those to 5 organs, Lung, Liver, Kidney, Heart, Spleen, and 5 emotions, Worry, Anger, Fear, Happiness, Gloom and 5 tones. Musical Instruments are either Stone, Skin, Silk, Bamboo, Wood, Metal, Gourd, Earth. One Chinese emporor had 15,000 musicans in his orchestra. Quite a gig.
Music of Africa: Africa like India and China, has its own music and instruments. The music of Ancient Africa was very vocal. Even today many Africans get together and chant and sing, almost anywhere, anytime. African music is very broad, running from primitive jungle log drums, to chant choirs. Each country and tribe had its own healing songs, dream songs, mystical and spiritual songs. Lots of singing.
Music of Sound America: Many people find the music of Peru, Columbia, Brazil, and other South Anerican countries very healing. Panpipes, guitars, whistles, wooden flutes, and other South American instruments produce a variety of styles and musical moods. Ancient peoples used music for healing, for out of body experiences, for upliftment, and to dance to. Many interesting sounds for you to try.
Music of Mexico: Mexican music is known the world over for guitars of various sizes, different trumpets, and lovely high pitched singing. A cross blend of music from Spain, South and Central America, the best Mexican music is very happy, joyful, and romantic. It celebrates sound, celebrates life and love. I always try to go to a Mexican restaraunt that has live music. And enjoy going to Mexico to hear more music.
Native American Indian Music: Chants, songs, flutes, drums, bells, rattles, formed the basis of many of these nomad tribes music. There was music and songs for every and all occasions. For rain, for a good hunt, for victory in battle, for a happy mating, for prophetic dreams, and for healing. The Great Spirit was known to listen and respond to all requests made via music and song. Many find this music healing.
Music of Ireland: Celtic Music is very popular the last few years. Tradistional folk songs, jigs, reels, and hornpipes to celtic harp, music of Enya, and film score hits like the love song from Titanic. Irish bards, druids, and shamans used music for healing for centuries. And like other ancient cultures, knew music had powers that seemed magical. Riverdance and other Irish music shows are very popular worldwide.
Classical Music: The spiritual intent of many of the great classical music composers, combined with great melodies, harmonies, and positive rhythms makes classical music one of the most healing. Beethovens 9 Symphonies, many pieces by Bach, the operas of Wagner, the piano music of List, classical music has a mood to fit everyone. Need to take a soundbath in an ocean of sounds, classical music is a good choice.
New Age/Electronic Music: New Age started out as slow tempo music designed to help one achieve certain brainwave states that occur while sleeping or during meditation. Then it broadened out to be called Comtempary Instrumental, then back to New Age. Now many call it Healing Music. Many New Age recordings use synthesizers to create all kinds of sound scapes. There is New Age with a beat also.
My definition of Healing Music takes in all of the above. I call something Healing Music if it has the ability to heal the body, heal the emotions, heal the mind, and heal the spirit. That gives balanced healing, and allows Spirit to make the call, if someone is actually going to be healed or not. And how the healing should take place.
When I compose, I am just a vehicle for Spirit. And its always a very humbling experience to finish a new composision, and feel, see, and hear the love in it. Divine Love is the ultimate healer. As a composer I know Divine Love can be expressed and manifested in sound and music. Its the healing love factor in any piece of music that uplifts one, no matter what the musical style.
Enjoy your journey of discovery, as you find what kinds of music are the most healing for you and also those you love. Theres a whole universe of music out there, that you can enjoy.
Happy Healing Music. Thanks for reading.

What is Sound Healing. An Overview. Copyright © 1999 Timothy Kelly
Sound Healing is a little more esoteric than music healing. The sound healer often works with just one note at a time. Searching for a certain tone or pitch that will bring healing. The sound healer may work with a sweep of vibrations or frenquences, or a pulse, or even with sounds above or below our hearing range. The sound healer might use their voice, an instrument, or a high tech sound producing gadget.
Here is what some sound healers are doing around the globe.
Trying to Map the Sounds a Healthy Body Makes: These sound researchers are trying to discover whats sounds a healthy body makes. Doctors listen to the sounds and rhythms our heartbeat makes, look at the vibrational patterns and rhythms of our brainwaves, measure the magnetic fields put out by the body, so listening to what a healthy body sounds like vs a diseased one, makes sonic sense.
Putting Sounds Into the Body: Some sound healers claim they can figure out what sounds the patient needs, and then they can play those specific sounds back into the body. And then the body will use the sounds to retune itself to good health. The sound healer may use his voice to put sounds back into the body or some hi tech sound gadget, or even a recording of certain kinds of sounds.
Tuning Fork Accupuncture: Another interesting sound healing technique is accupuncture with tuning forks instead of needles, or electric needles. A tuning fork is hit and vibrates the sound into the accupuncture point and meridian. Different pitched tuning forks are used on different accurpucture points. Each point is massaged with sound. You can easily try this by picking up a tuning fork at a music store.
Mapping the Sound Pattern in Your Voice. Other sound healers record your voice into a computer where computer software maps all the frenquencies in your voice. Then the software records what sounds it thinks your voice needs to be balanced more. Then a recording is made of the sounds, and then you play these sounds to become healthier. This theory assumes health and disease can be heard in your voice.
Finding the Specific Pitch of Certain Diseases: Some sound healers think they have found the exact pitch of a certain disease. And then the disease can be cured by changing the pitch of the disease to the pitch of the healthy organ, or body system. By playing the healthy pitch over and over, till the vibration of the disease changes to match the healthy vibration. From disharmony to harmony.
Killing Diseased Cells with Sounds: Other sound researchers and doctors claim to be able to cure diseases with a focused sound beam, much like a doctor uses lasers today. The sound beam only kills the diseased cells, and doesn't harm any healthy cells. No side effects either. Wow-right out of Star Trek. Ultrasound can do things xrays can't with no side effects, so beam me up, to better health now, Scotty.
Brainwave Tuning: Need a tune up, not your car, but your brain? Much is known about how negative forms of music and sound, like illegal drugs, can interfer with the normal brainwave functioning. So some sound researchers claim to be able to retune your brain back to normal, or even into a state where deep relaxation and super learning can occur. We may see a Brainwave Top 40, Brainy Spice Girls, yet.
There are a wide variety of sound healing techniques out there. I believe the 21st century will see sound and music healing used widely, as more and more people turn to cures using music and sound. Sound and music healing offers treatments that can replace or enhance any other kind of healing. Sound and music healing even holds the sonic keys to curing many incurable diseases. Sound Healing like Music Healing, is the future of healing worldwide.
Happy Sound Healing. Thanks for reading.
